TanTowel needs to be applied to CLEAN and DRY skin (meaning free of lotions, creams, and oils). We recommend using TanTowel Moisture Mist or TanTowel On The Glow® moisturizer after using the TanTowel. These have been designed to work with the TanTowel self-tan process and will not inhibit the tan. We recommend that you wait 10 minutes before applying either the TanTowel Moisture Mist, or TanTowel On The Glow® moisturizer. Otherwise, you need to wait 3-4 hours before applying other moisturizers and creams so as not to inhibit the tanning process.
TanTowel is the best self-tanner on the market because of its ease of use, portability, and natural-looking color.

Any tan (sunless or not) only affects the top couple layers of your skin, which is made up of dead skin cells. These skin cells naturally slough off and your body actually regenerates completely new skin every 35-45 days. Therefore, whether you’ve been laying out in the sun to get your tan or use our fabulous sunless tanning products, your tan will fade over time.
Everyone’s skin naturally exfoliates at different rates, and the more you shower, shave, swim, etc, the faster your tan will fade. Most people are able to maintain their TanTowel tan by using them about 2 times per week. Some people will require more frequent use, and some less - it depends on your skin type.
A great way to prolong and enhance your tan is to use our On The Glow daily moisturizer. This product has a small amount of tanning formula that keeps your tan going while moisturizing your skin at the same time. For more great sunless tanning tips, check out our website at www.TanTowel.com.

We get this question a lot so we figured we would put your mind at ease. The active ingredient in most self-tanners including TanTowel is dihydroxyacetone, commonly called DHA. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers DHA safe when applied to your skin. DHA is a natural ingredient derived from sugar that reacts with the dead skin skills in the top layers of your epidermis. This natural reaction results in a darkening of those skin cells that lasts, on average, five to seven days. The rate at which your skin naturally exfoliates directly affects the length of time your new self-tan will last.
In fact, your body replenishes its skin cells completely every 35-45 days. This is why any tan, including a sunless tan, will fade over time. As these dead skin cells slough off, so does your tan. This is why it is recommended you apply your TanTowel every 3-5 days to keep that healthy-looking glow all year round.
Don’t confuse DHA in TanTowels with ingredients found in bronzers. Bronzers are different in that they contain actual dyes that dye your skin darker. Much like makeup, these products only work until they are washed off easily with soap and water. The mess can be awful as well, staining clothes, sheets, or other things. Currently, TanTowel does not use bronzers in any of our products. We only use DHA, which reacts naturally with the skin to give you a natural-looking tan.

TanTowel On The Glow Moisturizer is specially formulated to give a longer-lasting, more natural glow. It contains the ingredient Retinol to nourish, rejuvenate, and help with anti-aging. It has a light ocean fragrance that will not compete with perfume or cologne.
Simply apply the On The Glow Moisturizer after using your TanTowel to give your skin a long-lasting, natural and healthy glow. It also contains a small amount of our self-tanning formula, so if you use it daily, you will become a shade darker after 1 week. Be sure to wash the palms of your hands after use.
This is the best way to prolong and enhance your self tan.

Many people make the mistake of skipping the exfoliating step before applying a self-tanner. This, however, is the single most important step when applying any sunless tanning product. TanTowels are no different. You must start with a clean, dry body AND exfoliate to achieve optimum results.
We have developed a unique product to be used in conjunction with our TanTowels. It is called the X-Foliator towelette. It has exfoliating beads infused on one side of the towelette and the other side of the towelette has been left smooth. This is a great way to exfoliate the skin with the exfoliating side and then buff the skin with the smooth side to prepare yourself for self-tanning.
If you follow these important steps you will have great results and the perfect self-tan to show off to your friends!

We’d like to highlight some important differences between our TanTowel Self-Tanning Towelettes and those other self-tanning lotions, creams, and gels. What makes TanTowel so unique and so much better is the ease of application. The towelette makes it pretty much fool-proof. You cannot go over an area too much with the towelette, but with the creams, lotions, and gels out there, it can be very difficult to apply the right amount for certain parts of the body (i.e. elbows, knees, ankles, etc).
The towelette format also provides a convenience that the other lotions and potions do not. If you are traveling or just out on the town, it is so easy to slip an individual towelette inside your purse or pocket, and you can be on your way.

Here are some helpful tips to avoid skin cancer (from The Skin Cancer Foundation):

- Do not burn.
- Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths.
- Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day.
- Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours.
- Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.

Top Ten Self-Tanning Tips
A fool-proof way to avoid the streaking, orange, messy fuss of those “other” self tanning products.
10. Start with clean, dry skin. Use TanTowel’s X-Foliator towelette (in or out of the shower) before you apply our TanTowel self-tanning towelettes.
9. Apply in circular motions from head to toe.
8. Bend your elbows and knees when applying.
7. Do your feet last, when the towel is almost dry and just lightly brush across the top of them to get the most natural look.
6. When tanning your legs, start with the largest part such as your thighs and work your way down to your feet because they will require the least amount of moisture in order to tan.
5. Do not put on any other moisture (lotions, creams or even water) for at least 3 hours while the formula sets…unless it is our On The Glow daily moisturizer.
4. Apply our On The Glow lotion daily. This will moisturize your skin, help set the tan into the epidermis deeper and bring out the tan faster.
3. You can use the Tanning Mist to re-wet the towelette to make it go further.
2. You cannot go over an area too much.
1. Wash your hands immediately after use.
